THE 4RUNNER FILES

If this site saves you from buying the wrong part, chasing the wrong problem, or spending money twice, then documenting all of this was worth it.

The4RunnerFiles is a collection of upgrades, repairs, maintenance records, troubleshooting guides, and lessons learned from owning a 1999 Toyota 4Runner. What started as a simple plan to clean up an old SUV quickly turned into years of modifications, road trips, problem-solving, and the occasional expensive mistake.

Unlike many build sites, this isn't a showcase of a perfect build. It's a record of what worked, what didn't, and what I'd do differently if I had to do it all over again.

If a modification was worth the money, I'll tell you. If it wasn't, I'll tell you that too.

Whether you're maintaining a stock 3rd Gen, planning a build, or trying to solve an annoying vibration, hopefully something here helps.

Road Trips, Camping, & Daily Duty

Built primarily for road trips, camping, and daily use. Despite years of modifications, it still spends most of its life doing what Toyota intended: hauling me to work.

THE VEHICLE

The goal was never to build the biggest, tallest, or most expensive 4Runner. The goal was to build a comfortable, reliable daily driver that could handle road trips, camping trips, and whatever else life threw at it.

The results have been mixed.
