DriveShaft Replacement
10/29/2025
Well, turns out my last “successful” test drive wasn’t long enough — because the vibration is back. Even after installing adjustable rear control arms, it’s still there, mocking me.
So, next on the suspect list: the driveshaft. As far as I knew, it was still the original one, and with the lift, there’s a good chance the u-joints were past their prime. My first clue was a nice little splatter of grease on the floor coming from the front u-joint. Normally, that’d be fine if they were greaseable joints… but these are sealed. So yeah — that was not a good sign.
I pulled the whole shaft and brought it to Randy’s. Turns out the internal seals (which I didn’t even know existed) were completely shot and the whole thing needed a full rebuild. That one stung a bit. The good news: they got it back to me the same day, now rebuilt with greaseable u-joints and a shiny new one-piece design.
I bolted it all back up, took it for another drive… and the vibration is still there. Pretty disheartening, but at least I know the shaft was bad and that’s one issue officially checked off the list.
Just for kicks, I tried extending the control arms a bit more — which actually helped — but I still don’t know what angle I’m at or if my measurements are even close to right because for whatever reason, these angles are blowing my mind. And because the universe loves irony, the input seal decided to start leaking too. So, I’ll be pulling the shaft again to replace that, and while it’s off, I’ll take the time to get proper measurements and dial it all in.
Fingers crossed… maybe this will finally be the fix.
