Lower Control Arms & Ball Joints

03/22/2025

After a few too many front-end alignments and still failing to hit my target caster of 4°, I finally accepted defeat. There was only one real fix left: Solo Motorsports lower control arms. These things push the lower ball joint forward by about an inch, and that’s exactly what my geometry needed.

First impression? Holy hell. These arms are absolutely gorgeous. Pictures don’t do them justice—they’re the kind of parts that make you stop mid-install just to admire the welds. Straight-up garage art.

Since the lower ball joints were already halfway to retirement (160,000 miles of faithful service), I decided to give them a proper sendoff. And wow… it was overdue. The boots were cracked, the joints were loose—it was only a matter of time before one decided to eject itself mid-turn.

Honestly one of the easiest suspension jobs I’ve done yet. Probably helps that I’ve had most of this front end apart before, so no frozen bolts or rusted hardware waiting to ruin my day. The alignment cams slid out without a fight, the new LCAs and ball joints went in smooth, and for once, everything just worked.

Well—almost everything. Halfway through, my wife called with a flat tire. So, I dropped the tools, cleaned up just enough to not ruin the interior, and played roadside assistance. Luckily, I was already equipped for it.

Once everything was bolted back together, I realized my carefully marked cam positions didn’t translate to a perfect alignment. Ended up setting everything back to neutral and tweaking the tie rods to make it drivable enough for the shop.

But when I finally got it on the rack—over 5 degrees of caster. Unreal difference. The truck tracks straight, doesn’t dart around on the highway, and actually feels planted for once.

Feels like a brand-new rig—and honestly, this might be my favorite suspension upgrade yet.
