180k Maintenance
06/06/2026
The weather has finally started cooperating, which means I've been spending a lot more time on the motorcycle and a little less time behind the wheel of the 4Runner. Because of that, it took about four months to rack up the next 5,000 miles and reach the 180,000-mile service interval.
For the most part, this was another routine maintenance day, although I did find myself chasing a transmission fluid level issue. The fluid seemed a little high, so I played the classic game of draining some out... only to realize I drained a bit too much. Naturally, that meant adding some back in. By the time I was done, it had basically turned into an unplanned transmission drain and fill.
While looking things over, I also noticed the brake fluid reservoir is starting to show its age. The plastic has definitely seen better days, and losing a reservoir because it became brittle isn't a problem I'd like to experience on the side of the road. It's officially on the list of things to address sooner rather than later.
The good news is that I've got some interesting parts and upgrades coming over the next few months. I'm focusing on solving some of the things that annoy me most about the truck.
And at the very top of that list?
This lift.
Items done today are:
Oil and filter change
Transmission Pan Dump and Fill (unintentional)
Engine Bay Cleaning
Brake Fluid Reservoir Inspection
