Sherpa Roof Rack

09/01/2023

This one has been almost a year in the making. From the moment I bought the 4Runner, I knew the stock roof rack had to go. It was missing parts, barely functional, and honestly looked like it was just there for decoration. But finding the right replacement turned into a bit of a saga—every rack I looked at was either overpriced, overhyped, or just didn’t fit the look I wanted.

Then I stumbled across the Sherpa Sport line, and it was game over. The clean design, solid build, and price point all hit the sweet spot. Finally, it was time to pull the trigger.

The install itself was pretty straightforward—Sherpa makes good stuff—but, of course, I found a way to overcomplicate it. I spent way too long measuring, adjusting, re-measuring, and stepping back to make sure everything was perfectly square and lined up just right. Classic case of “measure twice, install once… then measure again anyway.”

The only hiccup came with the front fairing. The instructions said to mount the middle brace in the front slot, but it just wasn’t happening. After a few attempts (and a few choice words), I mounted it in the rear T-slot instead—and it fit perfectly.

While I was at it, I couldn’t resist adding a few extras: some “smileys” for tie-down points (and, let’s be honest, bottle openers), plus a set of mounts for an 83L Roam box I plan on picking up later.

So far, zero complaints. No added wind noise, no rattles, no weird vibrations—just a solid, clean rack that looks like it was meant to be there. Can’t wait to load it up on the next trip. I know the dogs are going to love having all that extra space inside once the gear moves to the roof.
