Transmission Cooler

05/31/2025

Like the date above says, I actually did this on May 31, 2025—and it’s now October. Yeah, it’s been that kind of year.

We bought land to build a house (which is the whole reason I wanted the cooler in the first place—pulling a trailer and a heavy mower had my trans temps climbing fast). Then things got hectic: sold the house, drew up plans, went through three builders who all blew the budget, scrapped the build, moved into a rental, then bought another house… and moved again. All in about five months.

So, safe to say my memory of this install is a little fuzzy—but here’s what I remember.

The Iconic Fabrication kit was awesome. It came with everything needed, and I ran it in series with the factory cooler. Install went smoothly, except for one hiccup: I cracked a 90° fitting and had to improvise a fix in the garage. It held fine, but just to be safe, I raided a junkyard later for replacement fittings from other Toyotas (no luck finding a 3rd Gen 4Runner with the radiator still intact).

The results though? Worth every bit of hassle. Transmission temps dropped nearly 40°F, and the truck runs noticeably cooler when towing. Definitely calling this one a win—and I’d 100% recommend both the cooler and the Iconic mount if you want a clean, OEM-style install.
